I am currently involved in a project to increase capacity of an assembly area. The team have identified and removed massive amounts of Non Value Added work and are now ready to take it to the next stage. To get their creative juices flowing I am looking for any examples of S.M.E.D. on large equipment – aircraft, tanks, earth movers, oil tankers that sort of size. I have seen some processes in the aero industry where planes are serviced using moving gantries fully loaded with all the components. If anyone has any photo/video of such processes that would be great to give the team a feel of what is possible with some creative engineering.
