The 1.5 shift is a reality and makes sense. I agree with that. But to estimate a Sigma level off of a number of defects at a snapshot in time is spurious. To say your Sigma level is ‘x’ from a couple of numbers uses false reasoning. It does not consider the aspects of time or (more importantly) variation. It is especially confusing to non-statistical audiences. Use the shift carefully.0
