Six Sigma in itself a methodology, like a collection of statistical and soft tools. Its like a package thats being incorporated into the system.
At a point when process is said to be performing with six sigma it means that it has 1 defect per million oppurtuinities. Beyond wouldn’t be so practical.

    Raghu,
I am not sure how you have managed so much misinformation is such a short post:
“Six Sigma in itself a methodology” – Agree
“..a collection of statistical and soft tools…” – only to those with a superficial understanding
“..six sigma it means that it has 1 defect per million oppurtuinities.” – with or without the infamous shift, wrong
“Beyond wouldn’t be so practical.” – I will go out on a limb here but I am willing to money on the fact you have never had a six sigma process so that would make this someΒ esotericΒ opinion on a really good day and more likely pure BS on most days.
    Just my opinion.

Stan & Mike – you’re trying to respond with knowledge and logic to two guys who haven’t got a clue about anything. That’s why I posted what I did. Let them talk amongst themselves and feel as if they’ve said something.
No way you’re going to get these two to understand it.

I just wanted Raghu to understand what complete garbage he wrote in a short response so hopefully Raghu will think before he posts. If Raghu never figures out exactly what SS is, is pretty much a don’t care.

I think we need to post a sign by this pool that reads, “WARNING: Sharks!Β Enter at your own risk!” (lest ye be eaten or at the very least chewed up and spat out)
Nice response though and not undeserved.

Hey, I thought you and Stan were coming to SoBe in October to party.Β  By the way, both you and Stan were impolite to the aforementioned poster who didn’t know what he was talking about.Β  As theΒ benchmark for tasteful responses, I abhor such actions and forbid you and Stan to do it in the future.Β  So it is said, so it shall be done!!!

You guys have talked a lot, but haven’t said anything. The poor inquirer knows the first response drew much criticism, but nobody supplier a better answer. To avoid incurring wrath on my own behalf, I have quoted the Wikipedia below:
Six Sigma is a business management strategy, originally developed by Motorola, that today enjoys wide-spread application in many sectors of industry.
Six Sigma seeks to identify and remove the causes of defects and errors in manufacturing and business processes.[1] It uses a set of quality management methods, including statistical methods, and creates a special infrastructure of people within the organization (“Black Belts” etc.) who are experts in these methods.[1] Each Six Sigma project carried out within an organization follows a defined sequence of steps and has quantified financial targets (cost reduction or profit increase).[1]

Of course we haven’t said anything Michael. It was a ridiculous question to post and the first response was equally incompetent. It is a waste of time to attempt to explain anything to these guys. Let them chat amongst themselves.
Oh gee, Stan…sorry, I didn’t promote anything. Oops!

    Darth,
Current plans are to be there on October 10. We are going to do the Keys over the weekend and then the WCBF conference the following week.
I will do my best to restrain the Discussion Forum Tourretts.
    Let me know about October.
Business in Switzerland easy choice over Detroit. Vacation in Switzerland – I’d go to the Caymans (wasn’t that one of the choices).

    Michael,
You can’t blame people for going off on someone for asking such a basic broad and open ended question when you consider what the asker probably had to do in order to find this forum.
To get to this forum, the asker would have to do an internet search of some kind, probably a Google search. He probably searched on the words, “Six Sigma.” and got the upteen million hits on that query. He then selected the isixsigma.com link and upon very quickly scanning the page (and missing the link on the left that says “NEW TO SIX SIGMA” or “SIX SIGMA Q&A”) he clicks on the discussion link where he would undoubtedly review some of the discussion threads before deciding to post his question.
It’s just plainΒ LAZY to post a verrrrrrrry basic question without first doing a Google search (which I have already postulated he must have done) to see what written explanations might already be available. Instead, he asks OTHER people to do his research for him and serve it up in a nice neat little package addressed just to him (which is actually what you did. Why couldn’t HE do that search for himself?) Actually, I’m not even sure that lazy is the right word for it. ItΒ probably took more time and effort to search for this website, figure out there was a discussion forum, figure out how to post a new thread, type the message, then WAIT for someone to answer the question. By the time he did all that, he could have gone through a dozen hyperlinks in Wikipedia or on this site and become completely immersed in his topic of query.
Given all of that, it is absolutley astounding that the responses to theΒ post and theΒ silly first explanation toΒ the question weren’t even more venemous than they were. I don’t mind people asking questions, even simple questions, but at least try to do a little bit of self study first and then ask clarifying questions if there are things you don’t understand. But don’t come in here and ask, “What is the meaning of life?” questions and expect people to beat down the doors to post a serious answer.
(The meaning of life and the universe and everything is 42 by the way, in case you didn’t know that.)
Sorry about the rant, but people, please… act like you have some sense.

Outlier, I agree entirely. That is why my post, No. 3 in this string, said “Asked and Answered”.
Should have been the end of the string. But nooooo…..
