My organization is implementing ERP.  If anyone has implemented Six Sigma in conjunction with ERP, I very interested in getting your insights.

    Thank you,

I have the exact same question.
ERP project were usualy managed with a specific methodology (Prepare/Desing/Realize/Test/Support). I have difficulties in seeing how to apply 6 Sigma with this project.
Prepare = Define? Measure ? Analyze = Design? Realize + Test = Improve? Support = Control?

    Tom,
What you said was that your company was implementing both ERP and Six Sigma, not that they were using Six Sigma to run the ERP project.  It is a very good idea to do both because even the best ERP program implemented with the best program management will only obtain poor results and be hostage to lousy processes.  The ideal combination is to use Six Sigma to make the business processes — especially the off-line manual processes — both lean and predictable.  Then you can get the maximum benefit from the huge investment in an ERP implementation.  In turn, the new accessibility of data from the ERP will point to future Six Sigma improvement projects.

Six Sigma during implementations may overly complicate the blueprinting and realization process.  It would introduce two cooks and two recipe books into the kitchen.    Here, we followed the processes and procedures from SAP (known as their roadmap) to implement SAP.  Subsequently, we are utilizing Six Sigma PM and DMAIC to improve a business unit’s use of SAP.  I found an excellent article on this approach as it was used at Dow Chemical.  Here is a link http://www.haverstickconsulting.com/pages/-1104-/
Please note, my focus is on the SAP Infrastructure and delivering the application to the users workstation.
