    I have done substantial research in applying the six sigma concepts to IT. The areas that one can succesfuly use six sigma are the Help desk, application development and customer delivery areas. However, use of “pure” six sigma tools and techniques may not work in the improvement and measurement of the customer delivery area.

    I think the tools can be applied to ANY process that is giving you problems. You just have to be able to identify the problem and determine a way to measure it. Once you do that, the tools work to identify the root cause and lead you to the solution. If you need help, identifying your “defect” in a business process (IT or otherwise), contact me and I’ll be happy to talk to you about possible approaches to use the tools.
