Does anyone have any examples of DMAIC being applied to a hospital laundry facility?
0November 22, 2003 at 3:00 am #59978Hi Tony:
I have an experience in implementing Lean Six Sigma activities in a laundry for a 300 room Hotel but not at Hospital.
I guess the basics would remain the same. Only it would be more rigorous in hospital taking into consideration the sterilization processes in addition to normal processes.
I was team leader when we implemented Lean Six Sigma initiatives at the Ritz Carlton Hotels in Las Vegas.
It would be my pleasure to share my experience with you. Please feel free to mail me on [email protected]

It is very applicable and very easy. The question that you need to answer is what are the acceptable specifications for the “clean” laundy. Once you have specifications, you measure your process to find out if you even need a Six Sigma DMAIC project to improve the process. Does that make sense?
So for example, output specs might be:color whiter than X on a scale from A to Z
biological matter less than X ppm
zero wrinkles
Once you’ve defined the correct metrics for your process, then you can measure them. Please let me know if you would like me to clarify anything.
