So how broad is the applicability of Six Sigma? Can it be applied to baseball? Can Jack buy the Sox, apply Six Sigma and quality processes and bring the ever elusive World Series trophy to Boston?

Indeed there is no guarantee that someone who play base ball or any other sports applying six sigma will become the world champion. It is worth to try as we have no data.

There certainly seem to be alot of emphasis on stats, like number of home runs, and the ability to continuously improve. When the stats aren’t good, people get replaced… don’t we all wish we had the option on some of our projects? :)

KN0August 9, 2001 at 4:00 am #67973Yes, six sigma can be applied everywhere as you want.
A baseball coach can use six sigma to evaluate the performance of each player and find out why in some cases some players make mistakes but others are excellent.
By narrowing down all the inputs and analysing them, coaches are able to control when is the best time to send specified player to play. Of cause, we need stastistic data and tools to support.
Furthermore, DOE is such an advanced tool to get the best pose or positions for a single baseball player to play, either to throw the ball or strike the ball.
