If I have to calculate from the following information a process sigma, can I get a negative sigma?
average call 10.5 minutes, std dev 0.5 minutes, USL = 9 minutes and there is no LSL. I calculate a Process sigma of -1.5. Is this correct? Please let me know.

    edward,
Absolutely a negative sis sigma level is possible. You are only considering the USL. Your mean is 3 standard deviations above the USL. Your sigma level should actually be -3.00, but I suspect you are following that nonsense of 1.5 sigma short-term shift rule.

-1.5 or -3, who cares which is right. Both suck.

    Stan,
Of course they both suck BIG TIME! But I was just answering the question, not offering to help edward judge the process. S/he should know that it sucks.
    Cordially,
    Dr. Scott
