    Hello Anita,
If you are to “streamline your processes” this points towards driving lean to take out the waste that is slowing it down.  The classical 6 Sigma tools will offer process understanding, characterization & variation reduction.  Lean will accellerate your processes  – if you wish to discuss this further please don’t hesitate to call/e-mail.

Surely mapping out the flow of documentation will help in identifying where the waste lies. Then maybe you can improve. Otherwise “attach the piece of paper or document to you shirt” and follow the process (and record) to see where and what time it spends in the document pipeline.
    Hope that helps.

Job one is figuring out what you mean by “streamlining the documentation procedures”.  In many companies, there is a pretty huge opportunity here.  The question is, where do you need to strike the balance.  How much improvement is expected?  How much time do you intend to take?
Within Six Sigma, the first step is to clearly define what you intend to accomplish.  The second step is to come up with an agreement on what success looks like.  At that point, you can decide whether you can “improve” the current procedures, or need to start all over with a clean sheet of paper.  Obviously, the second approach is not going to be easy or quick, so if you have to go there, the savings need to be significant.
Once you CLEARLY know — and clearly knowing could well require the process mapping that Johnny Guilherme mentions, THEN you can move on to understanding what it is you need to change.
But the very first step is a clear agreement on what you intend to accomplish.

    Anita,
Streamline documentation can find online also. If you want the demo how to setup the streamline process  I think there is a company that is offering for industrial engineers. Streamline how to get the path of products quick.

    Hi Adam,

I am doing a project very similar to this concept where we are basically trying to streamline the import documentaion and procedures.

At the start it looked quite hazy but now i have started with the sequences of the various processes and procedures, the required documentaion needed for each of these and the time taken for these.

What more can you suggest that would help me to best address my objective?
What exactly should i be targetting and how to go about it?

Your valued comments would really help me to head forward with this project.

    Regards
    Neha
