It does not have to be 25 words or less, but I need an exciting brief description of Six Sigma which can be used to explain and wet the appetite of managers. We have seen the 1001 statistical tools approach and the “tonic” for all your problems approach. Both are a little over the edge. Someone must have an effective clean description which has proven useful.

Six Sigma is a customer centered, systematic, data driven method for doing things better.

You can distill a response from the following “elevator speeches.”

Six sigma is a project based systematic, structured, and scientific approach for achieving sustainable breakthrough improvements resulting in significant improvement in companies bottomline.
This is what I could think of. but its difficult for anyone to really appreciate six sigma in few words.

    Hemanth,
    How about this one:
Six Sigma is a powerful business improvement system that gives our people the time, tools and support they need to dramatically improve bottom line performance, customer satisfaction and increase our competitive advantage.

    Hi
Looks fine. However, I would suggest use of “approach” instead of “system”. As a black belt I look at six sigma from the methodology and roadmap angle, for executing projects.

    Hemanth,
Glad you liked it.  Reason I used system is that senior management is used to investing in “systems” which might impress upon them the seriousness of Six Sigma and the need for a systematic implemenentation strategy.
Sometimes the word “approach” can make it sound to “soft” or optional to Senior Management.

    Hi
Well I cant say much on managements point of view. but, technically if you see Six sigma is limited to DMAIC process. However, you need a support machinery to enable smoother execution, which makes it a complete system. Thanks for your inputs, that did let a lot of thought process over here.
