YES – we are just starting to use six sigma in several areas.
As you might expect many government agencies are services of strategic in nature and must move beyond the product view.
NOTE: The examples are based on a government agency and primary contractor that have been involved using Baldrige Criteria for 5 years to drive organizational change and improvement. Six sigma is methodology that is viewed as a structured system to facilitate our performance improvement. It is not seen as the flavor of the month program.
For example:
First we use the methodology as to our expectations for performance levels of our contractors, which is the basis of their contractual payment. (Basically the contractor is on performance-based system)
Second, we are using the structured approach of six sigma to reviewing our key processes for improvement..
