    Hi,
Does anyone have any information on Six Sigma in Ireland who’s doing it, who’s not, what stage are they at etc… Anytime I ask it seems that Six Sigma is managed from the UK/Europe surely someone has to have a team in Ireland…
    Thanks

We have a multinational operation which includes locations in Ireland.   Our Six Sigma deployment began in our U.S. operations and has expanded beyond – our deployment is much further along in the U.S. and at beginning stages in Europe.    It is U.S. centric but successes build upon successes and there is a growing “what about me?” from the ex-U.S. elements of the business.     It is my sense that, at this time, there is not currently a great deal of opportunity to productively benchmark with other deployments in Ireland.   As a result we are encouraging their participation in internal benchmarking opportunities first, e.g., other drug plants, medical device plants, support functions, etc. Vinny

Bombardier assembles the cockpits with intrumentation in Ireland. The SS initiative is driven from Montreal in Canada, but the business units can be somewhat insular. The initiative in Ireland may be somewhat independent of the corporate push.BTDT

    Aoife,
There are twenty or so companies belonging to the Irish Six Sigma Network that meet quarterly. Next meeting is coming up soon and one of the companies will be hosting the meeting and presenting their projects/experiences. If you are interested in attending you cam visit the website http://www.sqt.ie and look for details.

    Aoife,
    I’m a Black Belt working for a major US Automotive OEM in the UK. From my own eperience, i’d imagine that the following is true;
Most of the companies that adopt Six-Sigma in Ireland are multinationals. The Six-Sigma deployment is therefore probably operated from the headquarters in US/Europe.
I’m Irish and looking to move back home so have done a fair bit of research on Six-Sigma activities in Ireland. Please get in touch if you wish to share notes etc..

    Aoife,
i work for a large multinational in Ireland, we have been using SS for about 2 years now but it has really taken off in the last year or so. i would say a lot of other multinationals operating in ireland are doing so at the moment. lets just hope for our sake the all take it up and there is a severe shortage of BB’s $$$$$$$$

    Tony,
we are based in India. are engaged in implementing six Sigma in manufacturing organizations.Do you think we can take up consultancy for implementation of six sigma ( instead of getting involved as an employee). We can provide this service to more than one company at a time. will the organization experiencing shortage of BBs be interested in such a thing?you can reach me at [email protected]

    Aoife / Frank,
I am working with Dell in Limerick and we have been running a Six Sigma Program (called Business Process Improvement) here since 2000. There are approx. 20 Black Belts in Dell’s Irish operations, mainly mentoring, supporting and delivering projects with the added responsibility of rolling out the program to Dell’s offices across EMEA. If you require further details, email me on @dell.com">tj_scally@dell.com

    BTDT, FYI
Bombardier employ 5500 people and the do not have anything to do with instrumentation in cockpits. They are a centre of excellence for fuselage manufacture and composites.
They manufacture and assemble every fuselage in the bombardier business and regional fleet.
As for their program it is extensive and follows through from DMAIC , DMADV and now Design for Six Sigma. There is approx 35 black belts and four master black belts completing various projects across the spectrum.
The have beeen heavilly into six sigma since 1997 and have held numbers as high as 50 blackbelts.
I don’t work for them but they are an admiral company on their deployment and integration of six sigma into “Busines As Usual”
As for other companies in the North of Ireland –  British Telecom,Northern Ireland electricity, The Prudential, Seagate, Dupont, Caterpiller,Boxmore,Schrader Electronics to name a few,

    All The Best,
    John.

    Hi Geoff
You may think this odd, a reply to a message from 3 years ago but I too am now researching 6-Sigma in Ireland as I have moved home after working at JLR for 10 years and getting my BB back in 2000.  I am interested in consultancy and having looked around I’m assuming you are now the consultant Geoff Beggs.  Can you please email me with details on how you got into it and where in Ireland you are based and if that matters, what you have learnt about 6-Sigma consultancy in Ireland, etc.  It would be a great help, thanks.

    Paula,
I’m a Lean Six Sigma Black Belt, working in Ireland for the past 9 years. I work for a company, so not as a consultant, but have a network of contacts in the Irish Six Sigma community that can be of interest to you.
If you advise me of your e-mail address, I can send to you some preliminary information.
    Cheers,

    Hi Aoife
I don’t know if this helps…but we were involved in starting up the six sigma program at The Adelaide & Meath Hospital, in Dublin, in 2003, and I’m sure if you were to contact the hospital direct (Mary Hickey – Continuous Improvement Leader) they’d be happy to share their ‘story’ with you.  Good Luck. @rubicon.uk.com">andy@rubicon.uk.com
