I know of 2 fairly mature deployments. Becton Dickenson has a program that has been around since about 1999. The other is not a “manufacturer” in the normal context and I don’t have any current knowledge of the program but Merk Medco.
If you want to email me at [email protected] I can give you some contacts.
Good luck.0September 11, 2004 at 5:44 pm #60270Hi Mike!

Thank you. We are doing mostly international deployments these days. Between the travel and the jet lag it really puts a hole in our schedule.

Asad SiddiquiParticipant@Asad-SiddiquiInclude @Asad-Siddiqui in your post and this person will

Six Sigma is more of a cocept used in manufacturing than in the pharmaceutical industry, however the tools and concepts are used in the industry as stand alone programs to monitor, measure and improve the quality of processes. A classical case is the usage of DOE in improving the yield of the product, if you work for a pharmaceutical industry you would relate this well. The COPQ (on account of poor yield) can be drastically reduced by usage of designed experiments, I have done some projects for my clients on improving FTY, reducing cost per tablet and improving signal detection (in pharmacovigilance) using statistical modelling, the detailed explaination of the work is beyond the scope of this forum hence you can write to me at [email protected] if you have any specefic requirement.

Nupur0October 23, 2009 at 3:51 pm #62497Hi Nupur,
Just to be clear, a certificate is a piece of paper….It doesn’t improve anything. What will improve is your ability to diagnose a problem and come up with solutions – hopefully these are the things you will learn during your training and then apply in your job.
Good luck,

0October 26, 2009 at 6:06 pm #62499Hi there,
Unfortunately you seemed to have misunderstood the question and my response…I was merely clarifying that credentials will not guarantee improved performance – it is the application of what is learned (to obtain those credentials) to the workplace that will lead to improvements.
Don’t know where you’re going with the interview comment but now that you’ve opened that door, it does create a new potential discussion thread. So here is my question : For those of you who have hired six sigma practitioners in the past (or promoted from within), have you ever experienced some that had a lot of promise (on paper and throughout the selection process), but who turned out to be duds when it came time to deliver in practice? if so, what do you think went wrong?0October 26, 2009 at 6:29 pm #62500
B JohnsonParticipant@B-JohnsonInclude @B-Johnson in your post and this person will

My hiring experience in this industry has been related to instructors. While were mindful of the pedigree of the certification we conducted two forms of interview – technical and platform skills. Our MBB’s had a series of questions they used to assess one’s knowledge of the tools and how they are to be applied. Our “better” instructors then assessed one’s ability to speak, command a presence, their patience, and other metrics impacting their ability to instruct.
Worked pretty well.0January 31, 2010 at 10:01 am #62540

of six sigma from a case study?Thanks,0February 10, 2010 at 1:20 pm #62547Hi Manjunah,
The Six Sigma methodology applies to any industry. It is a way to resolve porblems. That said, it is the nature of the problem at hand that will dictate whether six sigma or another method is more aptly suited. I suppose you will be doing a project for a lab/hospital as part of a course credit system of some sort. If that is the case, the most important thing is that when you offer your services, you make it clear that the scope of the project must be such that you can actually complete it within the timeframe of your course, or period of apprenticeship. Whether or not they are currently using the methodology is pretty much irrelevant – you are offering to solve a problem for them….That said, scoping the project is critically important. I would also suggest that it is wiser to tackle a smaller problem, and practice the tools and methodology, rather than to try to handle a complex problem and get bogged down in issues such as cross-functional hand-offs, policy changes, employment or labour-relations, etc. I think you get my point, these types of corrolory ramifications can easily slow down a project and account for a huge proportioon of effort in major projects. So in discussing with your sponsor, find a project that can be scoped to one department if you can and work with that department’s leadership to see it through. Hope this helps and good luck!0 -
