If you are including “universities” in your definition of “schools”:
I ran across some examples of Six Sigma projects being worked at a university — these are REAL projects being conducted at a REAL university (yes, REAL Six Sigma projects at a REAL university!!):http://www.icc.edu/facultyStaff/sixSigma_projects.aspWhen you get to the website, click on the project name for more details on each project. For instance, here is good one about “Refunding Students”, with a goal to ” … decrease the turnaround time for refunds to be issued and mailed to students”.
… If you substitute “customer” for “student”, this suddenly is a Project that could be applied just about anywhere (not just schools) …

I have been asked tto introduce an impressive PowerPoint to convince a school management to implement SS.Do you have such PPT or can you guide me to some relevant links?
thanks and regards0July 30, 2007 at 4:40 am #159268Thanks for your information. I really appreciate that.
Btw, In this case, i need your comment or suggestion about my projects.
The fenomenal background of my project was the decreased of new applicant student in my campus for the last 5 years. My hypothesis, the cause of this decreasing was the quality service of the university. I wanna use six sigma as methodology to solve this problem.
What do you think ? From where should I starting my project ? (how is the starting point ?)
Thanks
i really appreciate your suggestion
best regards

This word “fenomenal” is only understood by people in your university who claim the standard of “matrikulasi” is same as STPM.0July 31, 2007 at 1:59 pm #159321

Sorry I missed your additional posting from late June.
Here’s my 2 cents worth: an impressive PowerPoint presentation may, in fact, be impressive or not, but it will not convince your school management to implement Six Sigma (or anything else). They will need to believe it is useful for them.
There are, in my experience, 3 general “camps” of people when you are talking about trying to implement Six Sigma (or Lean, or just about anything else):
1. The eager-beavers — early adopters, who will see the benefit and are knocking down your door to “do it”.
2. Those who are cautious, but are willing to look at the evidence (such as other universities who have had success with Six Sigma) and can be convinced by the evidence).
3. The hard-core, who are skeptical of these new fads, because they have seen many fail (and, sometimes, have seen some succeed, too, though they usually forget about those)..
How many people are you trying to convince, and in which of these “camps” do they fall?
Best regards,
