    Hi,
I am prepareing material for six sigma training. I want the materila to be as simple as possible. That is why i am not including deep statistical theory. I have selected around 20 tools. For these tools i will expalin what is it, how it can be helpful, how to use the tool and one or two case studies for each tool.
I need some more suggestions for preparing the material. Please add if you have any.
    thanks in advance

I am not sure what you are asking. Are you eliminating tools or theory?
The Six Sigma material has never gone deep into thery because there was never time. Typically it is what is the tool, how do you get it into the computer, how is the result interpreted.
If you have chosen to eliminate tools you might want to think that over very carefully. Obviously nobody needs to train on every tool in existence. There is a very basic body of knowledge you need to accomplish the task i.e. full and fractional factorials are used to understand interactions between variable. Without teaching designed experiments this task will leave a huge hole in the improve phase. If you are foregoing a this for the sake of simplicity you are doing your people a disservice. It would appear you intend to call them BB’s. As such they will be expected to know a certain amout of tools. If you turn them loose with the name and not the education they will look bad and it will eventually reflect on you.
There are currently several people rolling around the SS world who have come out of the transaction programs which have the trimmed down version of the tools. They have wandered into some manufacturing type positions and are not prepared to do the job. Please be careful in what you intend to do. You could seriously damage some careers.

What you are doing is called “KISS” approach.
(KISS = Keep It Simple Statistically)
See http://www.airacad.com and some of their books.
    Hope this helps.

Most SS projects are the result of cumulative KISS solutions which are commonly refered to as bandaids.
There is another saying which says “For every simple solution there is an unsolved problem.” Thank you for simple solutions it has given me work for years.
Now the material. Understand there is a reason that the tools are where they are. The part that bothers most people is Analyze and Improve.
If you look at the Hypothesis Testing like a t test. There are 2 formulas so you have to know if the variances are equal or not so you choose the correct formula. So now you have to teach Homogeneity of Variance. If you use Minitab the HOV testing gives you both Bartletts and Levines. Now you need to know about normality testing. What if it isn’t normal. You have to teach people to transform it or do nonparametric testing. There are similar assumptions which go along with DOE.
If it is the fear of stats that is driving this then do Measure and Control aka TQM bit don’t call it SS. You will embarass your so called BB’s sooner or later.

If your intent is to teach 20 or so tools using different case studies to help understand them then I think you will be doing a disservice to your BBs. Most of the training that I have seen or read about involves the BB coming to class with a project that can be taken through the entire DMAIC process. Having the project is key to successful learning as well as taking the time to invest in the training over a period of about four months which allows the BB candidate to apply the tools on the project. It also allows you as the MBB to monitor the BBs progress in a “real-life” situation and the organization gets results right away.Stay away from the theory as teach the application. The theory will come through practice as the BB becomes a significant change agent in the organization. I agree with Mike. If you aren’t going to teach full scope DMAIC, then don’t call it SS.I hope that this helps.
