Check with your employer too. I asked my big boss about it after asking about the online question here and Stan stated that my company has a program. I knew they did but based on my experience getting tuition reimbursement I didn’t really want to attempt the Sigma route. I spoke to a black belt in our company and they stated get your boss to let you do green belt. It is free for our company and the only costs would be flying me to MN and paying hotel for the 4.5 days. Really 5. The black belt told me with my 3 degrees and almost being done with my PM class and my experience and background I am needed. She said our company doesn’t have enough IT people that are green belts. I was like hum. So I emailed my big boss and she said they had actually been discussing green belts on our team. So I said I want training. I told my immediate manager about it just today and she is all for it and then said but what if they say no? I said one way or another I am getting it. I said if our company helps me then it will make me more loyal to them. If they don’t then loyalty is out the door as I will be. I have been a mgr in my past career and the thing that I see less and less of are mgrs that focus on their employees growth and potential. If you have hardworking, educated, driven people then let them shine. Give them the tools to grow. If they leave eventually so be it. And you know everyone leaves at some point and time. But isn’t it better to have John Doe leave and the only bad comment is “well they didn’t pay exactly what I wanted but awesome company to work for and my mgr was the best.” It seems in this day and age it is really hard to get paid what you think your worth. I guess it is the economy. That is what my company blames everything on.0November 5, 2009 at 2:31 pm #186625
