Could you tell me who has exclusive ownership rights to all Six Sigma material worldwide. I am thinking of starting my own 1 person Six Sigma consultancy in Europe, and I am unable to find out if I need to register somewhere & pay someone for using Six Sigma material.
Could anyone help me out?
Tx,
Mary Scott0January 28, 2004 at 11:22 am #94724Yes, it’s me.
Please cut me a check for ten percent of your revenue. Net ten day terms are acceptable.0January 28, 2004 at 1:05 pm #94729The term “Six Sigma” is a registered trademark and service mark of Motorola, Inc.
I hear that Motorola has gone after some large companies for license fees, but have not seen any confirmation of that rumor.0January 28, 2004 at 1:15 pm #94733Not true. AlliedSignal and GE did Six Sigma with Bob Galvin’s aid and blessing. The cat was out of the bag at that point and there is no putting it back in.

Has anyone seen any good information (Internet, books, articles) on how to set up a consultancy firm focusing on Six Sigma .. more particularly on how to develop your own training/presentation material and possible your own trademark registered Six Sigma ‘product’?0January 28, 2004 at 4:10 pm #94745I think each company has developed their own Six Sigma training and implementation material and the propreitory rights rest with them.
But you can approach GOAL/QPC who are a non profit organization that help companies to improve Quality.
The Six Sigma memory jogger is developed by them…their address is

0January 28, 2004 at 7:02 pm #94756Nobody owns anything. No matter which company you visit or consulting firm you see you will without a doubt see many of the same slides. I wrote a DFSS curriculumn for GE and 3 months later saw some of my slides in another companies material. So go for it, however the real question for you is can you offer six sigma consulting. What is your level of experience with the subject. Based on your question I would think it is not that deep as most in the industry know the answer all ready. 6 sigma is not an easy topic to consult in and failure can come quickly. I am working now with a major mfg trying to revitalize there program after failing miserably with a one person shop. I just throw that out. Best of luck
