    Marc,
Are you planning to include anything (eg. tools) with regards to financial aspects of Six Sigma projects eg. recording financial impact, and/or CoQ measures.
I am particularly interested in the latter and am starting to network with a few people on this area.

Yes, metrics that can be measured financially will be included. They would be considered outputs of the Define phase in their planning, outputs of the Measure phase in their implementation and inputs in the Control phase as the overall effectiveness of the project is assessed.

     Dear Forum Members,
The response to my offer to collate the materials and distill the experiences of other forum members into a project management template for Six Sigma has exceeded my expectations. To date, I have received over sixty emails requesting a copy of the template when completed. I have also received a dozen contributions that will aid me in the development of this tool. Many thanks to those who have already contributed.
I am not naive in regards to the amount of time that it will take to complete this task. I will get a better idea of how long it will take as the work proceeds. I have provided a work plan below for the forum members to review. Please feel free to constructively criticize. I will keep the forum apprised of progress with weekly status reports. The results will be distributed to the participants in sections for review and comment. Each DMAIC phase will be distributed followed lastly by the tool selector guide.
As previously stated, when completed, the participants will be polled as to whether to give the template a wider distribution. I believe this to be only fair, given the fact that they have shared resources with me that, in some cases, are proprietary in nature.
    Project Work Plan
    Purpose:
To build a project management template to guide the development of Six Sigma projects. The chief features will be:
    1. A list of tools, processes and milestones arranged in the order in which they are to be applied. They will be arranged in the DMAIC phases.
    2. A tool selector guide.

    1. A list of tools…
Use Input-Process-Output and PERT diagram methodology to:
    – organize the six sigma tools under the 5 Phases of DMAIC,
    – show the order of dependent, successor relationships,
    – show those tasks that can logically be completed in parallel and those which need to be completed in sequence and
    – help practitioners to determine whether a full six sigma deployment is appropriate to achieve the desired outcome or whether some limited set of tools and series of steps will be sufficient.
Toward this end, the tasks will be keyed to show:
    – those tasks that are always required regardless of the type of project being undertaken,
    – those that are optional and
    – those tools that are in option groups, that is, one of the tools in the group is required.
Using this chart, projects can be planned with a minimum amount of effort (no need to reinvent the wheel with each new project) and the critical path can be determined to get an idea of the overall timing of the project.
Also, practitioners will be able to front load or back load shorter duration tasks that are not on the critical path.
It will contain elements of a decision tree, showing which tools to apply and optional routes to take through the remainder of the project depending on the results seen in the project up to that point.
    2. Tool Selector Chart
There will also be a tool selector chart containing a comprehensive (but not exhaustive) set of six sigma tools and that will provide the rationale for selecting a particular tool according to the following criteria:
    – the type of data (historical, long term, short term, attribute, variable, etc.),
    – the type of process being investigated and
    – the type of product characteristic being investigated.
The tools selected will be partially based on the frequency of occurrence in the materials sent to me by the contributors.
    Respectfully,

Marc, I don’t have much to contribute at this time, since we just recently started to research into Six Sigma. I work for a retailer and will be very appreciative if you could send me a copy of your  product when appropriate and include me in your discussions.

Can I join your forum? I worked 20+ projects in service areas like Logistics, Purchase, Accounts etc. I can share my experiences in these.

I am working on a Logistics project to supply FG Seating Systems to a customer 250 kms away. We are planning Logistics system of nearly 20 trucks (15 mtr length). This is going to be major cost to us & our management is worried on this count. Any ideas?

Marc,I have a generic MS-Project template detailing milestones and deliverables of a standard DMAIC project. I also have a storyboard illustrating when to use what tool during the life cycle of the project. Would these be useful to you?

    Mike:
Would you mind sharing that with me?
I just completed a project schedule for a new project and when I was done I realized this was a starting point for a generic DMAIC template.
