My company, Chartered Semiconductor, is deploying about 20 Black Belts in our second wave. Does anyone have experience of using off-the-shelf project tracking software to track individual project progress and provide management roll-up?

I am aware of PETMET (too expensive, only for major deployments) and I have ordered a demo CD of Enterprise Tracker. I thought I had seen another piece of software customisable to Six Sigma and other project based porcesses but I can’t find the reference any more.

    Ideas, URL’s all gratefully received.

    Hi Neil,

My business within GE orginally looked at project tracking about 1 year ago. We didn’t find anything worthwhile of buying, so we ended up getting an intern and building a customer Access database for our needs.

Sorry I couldnt be more helpful in the answer.

    Tom.

I’m presently facilitating 6 projects using a DMAIC type methodology. I’m using a one page template broken down by the 5 stages which I developed myself to track the projects. I’ve combined this with a spread sheet which summarises the projects and progress for each. Its updated and circulated on a weekly basis. It helps to maintain focus. Its a low budget approach but it so far its been effective. By the way each one of the project owners has only recieved one days training and the results have been excellent.

For simplicity sake, use Microsoft Project.
There is enough room for detail as well as the overall project

Thanks for the replies. A couple of people emailed me with commercial products, I’ll be following them up. In the meantime, I will use a simple spreadsheet to track the data from our 23 trainees.

    Hi Neil,

Would you please post the commercial products to this thread…I’ve also been looking for products without much success. Any input would be appreciated.

    Sincerely,
    Christine Peters
