I am writing my Thesis on Six Sigma and I need help researching on the actual results from Sigma Projects.I am having problems finding actual result data as well as literature on Sigma besides the books on how to apply it.The paper discusses the results of companies that have used Six Sigma program. It shows that manufacturing companies have increased their productivity by implementing it. The paper shows whether Six Sigma principles and techniques can be successfully applied to non-manufacturing organizations if they are suitably customized.Hypothesis 1: There is no difference in return on investment between manufacturing and non-manufacturing application of Six-Sigma.Hypothesis 2 There is no difference in productivity between manufacturing and non-manufacturing application of Six-Sigma.Hypothesis 3 There is no difference in profitability between manufacturing and non-manufacturing application of Six-Sigma.I appreciate if you could refer me to any public reference/studies demonstrating Six Sigma actual resultsRegards,Sergio Retamal, CHB

Why don’t you conduct the research with a company that would like the results? It seems weird to me that you would take “someone else’s word” as to the results for your thesis. Isn’t a thesis supposed to include new, relevant research and independent thought on a subject to produce results never before seen? I don’t understand why you are looking for case studies and results from others — what kind of thesis is that, it sounds like a research report instead.
Why don’t you contact a Motorola, GE, Allied, Sun, or other company to document and benchmark their manufacturing versus transactional processes. You’ll need a lot of data to try to provide your hypothesis either way.
    Good luck,RB

    Sergio:
Dyncorp recently commissioned a survey through BenchNet (http://www.benchnet.com) on the use of Six Sigma.  Just go to their site and on the right hand side is a “Survey in Progress” menu.  At the bottom of that menu is a “GO” button to see the full list of surveys.  Click it and scroll down the list until you reach the survey on Six Sigma.  That’s where you’ll find it.  It gets into profits and cost savings generated, types of tracking and areas applied, etc.  It should give you some useful stats to use in your thesis.  As a participant, I received the results, but I am restricted from sharing them (bummer).  They do charge for membership (another bummer), but you can join on a monthly basis, which isn’t too bad on the wallet.
Hope this helps and good luck!

Discloser:  I do not work for or with BenchnNet, nor do I know anyone that works for BenchNet or that is associated with the survey mentioned.  I was only a participant in the survey.

Sergio:I am the Master Instructor, working on my MBB for 6 Sigma at a +30 Billion Retailer and come from manufacturing as a Black Belt and would be happy to offer some input and potentially some results. In addition, I am working with a Mid-Atlantic University for the development of a 6 Sigma Program (Textile based) and might be able to hook you up with other contacts. In addition, I am very interested in the results of this study, as it will be extremely beneficial if there were a validated independent report offering the “Truth” about 6 Sigma.Let me know how I might be able to help.Best regards,Steven
