I am responsible for reviewing and selecting a tracking software for my company’s Six Sigma program. Has anyone has any recent experience with i-solutions, instantis, powersteering or any other project tracking applications? I’m in search of actual user experiences, both positive and negative.
Also, do you have any comments about the use of a project management application such as ProjectOffice or Planview versus using a Six Sigma focused application?
Thanks for your help and input!0October 21, 2005 at 1:35 pm #128634I was associated with an attempt to implement NIKU as a project tracker and time tracker at a large enterprise. The tool was entirely too broad in its capability. It did a lot of things well but nothing wonderfully.

Went through this exercise a year ago. One key thing to consider is the software vendors are very willing to deal on price. It may be beneficial to have a purchasing professional negotiate for you.
The different systems aren’t too dissimilar. It mostly depends on what’s critical to your company.0October 21, 2005 at 11:13 pm #128685It goes without saying that I would blame someone other than myself. How do I know it wasn’t your fault?

0October 23, 2005 at 12:58 pm #128702Amen to stimulating that memory function; an old guy like you should try to hold on to them as long as possible………
Hope your doing swell!!! And not the swell of the storm surge.
By the way, I just saw this image of your new weekend project, raising money for a new outer space crib. Good luck!0October 23, 2005 at 3:49 pm #128705

I took a little hiatus myself. Yes, we are anxiously awaiting Wilma. Have stocked up on the Don Julio and the Vadermobile is safely tucked away in the garage.

My current deployment is using Instantis and they evaluated Power Steering but didn’t select it.
If you want some details please email me at [email protected].
Good Luck.0October 24, 2005 at 12:04 am #128718Yeah, I’ve been around almost daily. Gave up reading all the posts for content and insight, and being a egotist myself, I just wanted to see what would happen without my stirring the pot; but with the funny deth star image I jumped back in. Sure beats all the re-treads about blue belts, send me training and How it implement at SME?Kind, regards. Yikes.
But the official, real answer for use here a isixsigma for general consumption…..
Darth, yes, both index fingers have been in GiantMedicalProductsCompany brand fiberglasdigi-casts, rendering me incapacitated for hunt and peck, as a result of a freak accident involving a xerox machine, Mike Carnell’s fake mustache/wrap-around sunglasses, and the famous Stan Watering can. The resulting discomfort and other problems, as you can imagine, have been difficult.
But I finally stopped the guy who dresses like a 16th century mathematician and rides the train several days a week, while we were getting coffee at the 7-11. Turns out it was Vinny. He’s been keeping a low profile because he’s concerned that Ken’s ability to triangulate him, and of course, Stan, may require a visit to Congress requiring him to use the time honored response, “No Senator, to the best of my memory, I can’t remember if I had written that in a web forum or not.”0October 24, 2005 at 1:09 am #128719

0October 24, 2005 at 3:57 am #128723From their website, it sounds as though NIKU is an enterprise project management application. We have something similar that is the corporate standard for projects. My stance is that we need a more specific Six Sigma application which would support Six Sigma methodology as opposed to general project management. Would you agree with this approach based on your experience?
‘ curious as to your wording… “associated with the attempt”. Did you ever implement or were there too many issues? On the whole, do you consider your project management application to be a help or a hindrance?
Thanks again for your input!0October 24, 2005 at 12:40 pm #128743

Glad you’re back. Sorry to hear about the fingers. The period of Political Correctness aka Reverse McCarthyism seems to be subsiding except for a few of Stan’s fan club.
