No. TQM (Total Quality Management) is reinforced by the set of tools that comprise the Six Sigma Methodology. In fact, Six Sigma provides a venue for more companies to operate in a TQM environment. My opinion…..Jim Johnson

I think, it has become a “FAD” to call every quality initiative as fad. Fundametally, evry quality is robust enough for improvement of processes. But, it is we implementors who turn those into “FADs”

Is TQM a fad that is being replaced by Six Sigma?

In my opinion Six-Sigma is not TQM. Six-Sigma is a tool to improve processes to perform near Six-Sigma levels (Most non-manufacturing processes are between 3 and 4 sigmas performance levels). Six-Sigma requires management commitment as much as other TQM methodologies to which it is a sub-set.
