    Greetings all!
I’m finishing a green belt project that involves our manufacturing operation and that is going well.  As part of my goals for the upcoming year, I’m to do a green belt project for my software development department.  We develop embedded software used in the products our company sells.  There are current projects that relate to peer reviews and project cost estimations currently going on in the department.  I’m curious what Six Sigma projects other software developers have done.
I also plan to meet with our process team to see what areas they have found that could provide a good project.
    Thanks,
    Doug

For a GreenBelt project I performed a correlation study between the number of post release defects vs process audit results.  Or in other words if a project fails its software audit is it more likely to have post release defects, and is it phase dependent.

    Hi Jeff,
I want to know that process audit result mens what.
    Did you take it monthly?

We had a defined checklist with a scoring system broken down into the different phases (requirements, design, etc).   For instance , for Design some of the items we checked from a process compliance perspective were (Phase Transition Review Completed, Detailed Design Formally reviewed with a checklist used, Traceabilithy Matrix Updated to Design, Updated WBS completed, etc).  Each one was assinged a point value depending on their perceived criticaility.   the final result was a score (e.g. 56 out of 100 points or 56%).
The reviews were done not on a monthly basis but on an as needed basis, depending on the size of the project and its duration.
So, for the Six Sigma project, for approx 50 projects I compared the process audit score vs the post release defects, and further broke it down into phases.  For instance, was a poor audit score in the requirements section more likely to result in more post release defects than a poor score in the design phase.
