Has anyone out there used Excel as an SPC monitoring tool.  I have an automatic measurement gauge that is checking cut depths in 5 positions where this data is being automatically dumped into an Excel Spreadsheet.  Is there any way that this data can be automatically linked to SPC charts in Excel so that each time the data is downloaded into the spreadsheet, the SPC chart updates automatically as well, and a flag appears if a control rule is viloated.  Please let me know the proper steps of how this can be done.  Thanks.

    John,
I have seen Excel used for SPC, but it was done by manually entering formulas and drawing graphs.  It is somewhat cumbersome, but it will work.
    Good luck,

John,I have also used Excel for SPC.  There are certain macros you can use that will plot the charts you want, but I’m not sure if it will automatically do it or automatically update the chart each time.  If you’d like more info on the macros, post your e-mail and I’ll send you the info.

    John:
I have seen some software advertised in quality mags that bolt on to excel with this type of functionality. I do not recall the names of the products, but they were relaively inexpensive. Try Quality Progress, Quality Digest, or can possibly find via your favorite search engine

There are a bunch of E xcel add-in  type programs listed at https://www.isixsigma.com/tt/software/. Load the page and then do a CTRL + F for “excel” and you’ll find everything on the page related to excel.
