    Hi,
Quick “loaded” question: How can SS help one to become a better leader?
Or it does not help at all????

That is a very good one.
One of the “magic” things about Six Sigma is that potential leaders are recruited to become Black Belts.  As Black Belts, they are allowed to focus on projects and expected to lead projects with a lot more autonomy than they usually can experience back in their old jobs.
To most of the management, the Black Belt “is” the project … he is hanging out there exposed, expected to make almost all the decisions, expected to use the best credible data to make those decisions, expected to help others feel good about those decisions, and expected to take responsibility for those decisions.
Back in the “old job”, it was probably possible to be relatively anonymous … to sit back and float along and just get by.  The Black Belt has no such luxury.  He is the leader of the project hanging out there for all to see.  There is no anonymity, there is no “let me ask my boss”, there are no excuses.
Not only does he need to take responsibility for the project decisions, but he needs to pitch them to everyone else involved.  The successful Black Belt will be out there selling the changes that need to be made to the team members, the champion, the process owner, and upper management.
Can you imagine better leadership training?

    Porpon,
You should read the “Ask the Expert” column on the home page. Barbara Wheat discusses your question.
    Good luck.

    John,
That was a very thoughtful comments.
I can ee and understand why ‘becoming’ BB will be a good leadership training. Therefore, it indirectly ‘implies’ that SS helps one to become a good leader.
But, what about when one becomes greenbelt before BB? When we are talking about ‘greenbelt’, does SS’s Greenbelt help one to become a better leader?
    Thanks!

    I went here:

I couldn’t find the article by Barbara. Could you be more specific?
Sorry to bother, these are some critical issues I need to explore.

    Porpon,
Home page. It is the article in the middle of the page at the top. Six Sigma and Employees. You don’t have to do a search for anything – bottom of this page and click “home” – it will be right in front of you.
    Good luck.
