I am hoping someone call help me answer the below-noted questions.
Which SSBB certification is considered to be the “best”? Best being defined as the certification which is most recognized.
Does anyone have a list of on-line,self-study, or university taught SSBB certification programs that are reasonably priced?
I keep receiving e-mails from private consultanting firms who train and certify SSBB consultants – does  a SSBB certification from a small private consulting firm hold the same merit as  a certification from one of the large international Quality organizations?

    Thanks again

My opinion is the best are the ones who started this in AlliedSignal and GE. Everyone else is an imitator. There are three groups that have this background – do your homework.
The certification from the International Quality orgs are just tests and I could have anyone with an algebra background prepared to pass the test with 40 hours of prep. In other words they are proof of being able to prepare for a test.

I’ve worked on a hog farm in Kansas for the last 3 years and just took that SSBB exam and passed it.   I’d like a really good job as a Master Black Belt somewhere.  Do you have any recommendations?

It doesn’t make you a MBB. But on the other hand, several so-called MBBs would NOT pass that test or be able to work in a hog farm…

Here we go again.  I personally am proud to say I am certified as a ASQ BB.  However, the floodgates will open as to what that really means.  But then again, like openings in the body eveyone has an opinion.  Bottomline is can you deliver results?  What do you want to prove?  True, anybody can study and pass the test, although I did think it encompassed a lot of good material.  But does that make it any more or less of a good leveling system?  But every “title” has a test associated with it and does carry some weight.  Everyone knocks it, but without some type of governing body how can you have a baseline.  I have been around GE belts that couldn’t decipher a trend chart.  Then again, I have been around GE belts that made me sit back in awe of their knowledge.  The same goes with everything not just six sigma.  You will always have good and bad in every career field.  As with everything you get out of it what you put into it and the end result for a black belt is can you deliver results.  If you can without a certification more power to you, if you have the certification it should be a good feeling of accomplishment.

The ASQ BB certification is the first attempt to create a common gauge for measuring knowledge of Six Sigma tools and techniques through an exam.
It’s not perfect but it is a good step in establishing a common measurement system (for at least one dimension) to a methodology that preaches variability reduction. As JediBlackBelt mentioned, several well recognized 6S companies have testing requirements for Black Belts that pale in comparison.
Recently Sears has embedded it into its training programs. A few consultant companies are clearly not happy about it. It will be interesting to see how it will play out in the long term.
Having said all of the above, there is room for a LOT of improvement in the test itself.
