Wow, I go away for a little while and Carnell takes over the site, Stan disappears and some jerk named Gary takes his place. HEBE GB gets a sexy new handle and Jim still posts nonsense. Guess I haven’t really missed much and I am sure I wasn’t missed either.

    Darth or is that Phoenix,
Bienvenido. You have risen from the ashes.
Actually I think I have been as absent as you for a while. Friday was a paperwork day and I kept the Discussion Forum running in the background. Short attention span.
    Saludos mi buen amigo.

    Cathartic.
Stopped and saw Bob Launsby when we passed through Colorado Springs. Always a wildman.
Dinner with Mario Perez-Wilson in Scottsdale after many years. Great consulting model.
Few drinks with hacl after almost 20 years. The man looks like he did 20 years ago. Way to little stress in his life.
My greatest accomplishment was avoiding climbing that volcanic remnant called Pinnacle Peak. Regardless of senselessly over committing – Rob Tripp paid that price.
Tomorrow that intersting little 18 hour flight to Joburg.

Sounds like fun.  Heard from Rob, what a nightmare in today’s tech world.  Safe travels to RSA.

Yea that Gary is a real jerk. Looks as if some think his advice is dumb too.
Hey nobody to play with since you and Carnell are never here anymore. There is a new lunatic fringe of people who think statements are questions? and people who think everyone is waiting to know if they don’t know the answer to the question asked.

    Darth,
It was a safe trip but a sad trip.
Delta Airlines is really on a down hill slide. Here is a brilliant plan to save the business. Let’s cut service so badly that we completely anger the customers but we will save money.
Question for you since you are from the dark side. We know the speed of light. What is the speed of dark?

    Mike,
Glad to see you made it safely.  Delta sounds like it is using the same brilliant business philosophy as Circuit City.  Let’s fire our highest paid/highest performing sales associates and replace them with inexperienced but really cheap folks.  Look at all the cost reduction that will take place.  The customer??? Fxxk’em.
As for your question, the answer is easy and has been dealt with by the Sith Lords.
Light moves. Darkness is the absence of light and does not.
An analogy may help:Heat moves, cold is the absence of heat. You can describe the rate at which you “cool” and infer a “speed of cold” from that. However the physical reality is that only heat moves.Similarly you might infer a “speed of darkness” measuring the rate at which darkness envelopes a room when the light is switched off (for example). But be aware that you are actually “measuring” a function of the speed of light – in the room case it is the speed at which the light leaves the room (ie c for speed of light over n refractive index of room accounting for light exit paths, absorption and reflection at boundaries, etc).

    Darth,
The whole thing makes sense to me. Instead of taking care of those naive souls still willing to buy their product the say “forget that you can get the best service in the sky at Virgin Atlantic and spend about $3000 less for the ticket – lets save some money!”
Thanks for the answer. Quaestion 2 if the Vadermobile can travel at the speed of light do your headlights still work?

Darth:The lower limit on the Vadarmobile is 38 mile per hour. According to the Lene Hau at Harvard, “Light, which normally travels the 240,000 miles from the Moon to Earth in less than two seconds, has been slowed to the speed of a minivan in rush-hour traffic — 38 miles an hour.”An appropriate comparison?Cheers, BTDT

    But it looks good!
All that cold air you get all winter up there. I found out where it goes during your summer. It is all in South Africa – today. Would like it sent back immediately? Just a thought – heat is moving towards the cold so you should see your temperature drop and we should be getting warmer.

Mike:Not our cold air. We had such a snowfall yesterday that parts of the city lost power and trees were down all over. I covered the tomatoes so they would survive. In the years I have been here we have had record snow storms on May 23 three times.Physics! Tish-tosh!Cheers, BTDT
