Looking for suggestions for a statistical software package alternative to Minitab, for use in the financial services industry. Looking for something in between basic excel capability and a higher end tool (like Minitab). Hoping to avoid breaking the bank from a license perspective. Feel free to share experiences.Any suggestions appreciated.
Thanks!

Now there are some specialized software packages for doing DOE’s and control charts, but for an all around statistical analysis package, you can’t beat Minitab. The cost is minimal when compared to the capability. And their technical help, be it from a usability standpoint, a statistical standpoint, installation or enhancements, is always outstanding. And the software is one of the most stable that I’ve seen in quite some time.
I’m no shill for our friends in PA, just a very loyal user.0May 9, 2013 at 7:05 am #195198

Some are advertised in Quality Progress (American Society for Quality’s magazine). But we trust Minitab for ease of use, features, and reliability. One thing I advise is “don’t even think of building your own”. Sure, maybe you or people in your organization are really sharp with Excel or with building apps, and maybe you have some statisticians who really understand the formulas. But if you go that route you’ll spend much more than licensing and almost certainly end up with something you can’t trust.
