We are thinking of purchasing a statistical program and I’d appreciate any feedback you have about minitab, sas or any others. I’ve heard good things about them all, but would like to hear from people actually using them.

    Thank you,
    Terry

I’ve been using Minitab since they my company started with Six Sigma a few years back. I love it and couldn’t imagine changing to another program. I’d love it even more if it had all the functionality of excel, but that’s another story. It allows you to EASILY do anything you can imagine.

Download the free version that’s at Minitab’s site and chack it out for yourself.

Also, I’ve found it helpful to go to conferences and chat with the people that come from Minitab to demo the product. I can usually pick up a few tips here and there. Plus, I forgot, they have a great tech support line so if you do buy the product they can walk you though most of your questions.

    Cheers,
    Ted

I agree. I think Minitab has everything you could possibly want. It graphs, does control charts. helps with DOEs, will construct a fishbone….on and on and on. I sound like I work for them!

But seriously, I do think that it is a great program. Download the demo and give it a shot. That’s what we did.

Minitab is solid. Excellent SPC and Capability analysis features. Median moving range approach to short-term sigma is wonderful.

JMP is weak in SPC and Capability right now, but superior in data manipulation. If you have high volumes of data and have to clean it up, JMP is the tool. Their latest version is a big improvement as far as the user interface is concerned.

    Hi Ted, Jim and Greg,

Thanks for your input. I really appreciate you taking the time to reply. I think I will try out Minitab as it seems to be the program of choice.

I’ll let you know what I think as I try the others.

    Best,
    Terry
