Is anybody using takt time to improve flow in lab, pharmacy or radiology? Thanks!

We used takt time to pace radiology filing in a hospital.  So much per month translated into so much per hour and then managed the system based on that pace.  Reduced backlogs significantly.

Thanks. How frequently do you monitor takt time and take action on the results?

We measured need by day (we will have different times for Mondays, Tuesdays, etc.)  We re-evaluate quarterly and know for certain that our peak times will increase based on seasonal volume, so we adjust around that as well.

We did a similar approach as Brit for CT exams. We took a look at the demand of the day, as well as the hourly demand.
We recorded the demand on a Production Control Board. The techs can now record actual productivity against predicted demand to see whether they are ahead or behind schedule. We also subdivided it into IP, OP and ED because of the variation in their schedules.
Last time I checked, the PCB was still being used and for the most part, the pace was ahead of schedule, which told us that we were meeting the demands of the customer as well as increasing our capacity.
