I have just completed week 1 of GB training in my organization.  I had been working on a process improvement and decided to I wanted to become a GB candidate and implement my process using SS methodology.  The problem is that I am in DMAIC training and I now realize that I probably have a DFSS project.
I have been in the process of developing an electronic call system for inspectors, and I want to work it as a DMAIC project.  Is there hope for me in this venture, or should I abondon this as a SS project?

Whoa, don’t jump to conclusions regarding whether you need DFSS or DMAIC.  Too any people assume (Marine Corps definition here) that they need DFSS to create new systems.  That’s frankly irrelevant, some process improvements require DFSS and some greenfield process designs can work just fine with DMAIIC.
Do you have a high risk of change?  Is the process change you are proposing reversible (ie can you get back to the starting point without significant loss)?  Do you have any systems in place today that fulfill the purpose of the system you are creating?  If you can answer yes to all of these, proceed with DMAIC.  If you answered no to only one, use one of those silly hybrid processes like DMADV or DMEDI and you can still start out from a good position in DMAIIC.  I would be willing to bet that DFSS is overkill for the creation of the process you are proposing.
