    Hi everyone,
I am doing a current state value stream map and I’m wondering if Processing Lead Time should include the rework process time or should it be included under the Total Processing time. My thouht is that it would not be included in the Process Lead Time but under the Total Processing Time.
Any advise would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks

    Neo,
You’re correct – with the mention – you have to capture somewhow the information about rework (x% rework) next to the operation. VSM is an excellent tool to capture waste, and rework is waste.
    Hope this helps

You are correct. If you include it in total lead time, then it will show up as a waste value.  Reducing rework will reduce waste and then your overall total lead time.

You can include the rework time in the processing time but under that process, identify a metric which pertains to rework (e.g. first time through, OEE, rework rate, others) or use a quality filter mapping tool.

If your rework is standard and has a percentage of the total work, it would be included in the process time of the reworked process. if added to the total process time may give a fauls impression of the total process time. (in my opinion)
