    FAA, Good morning!
“Go  to  the  west  ,or  to  the  East, Villanova is the best”.
Sounds like a cheer for the Villanova football team rather than a convincing argumnet about its Six Sigma training.  Anything else?

    Best regards,

    FAA, Good afternoon!

You indicated that an expert you know told you:
“Go  to  the  west  ,or  to  the  East, Villanova is the best”.

Thats an interesting way to put it — it sounds like a cheer that may be made by people in spectator stands at a football game.

Unfortunately, it also does NOT convey much information. Did the expert you know say WHY he or she believes this about Villanova? Is there some convincing data or argument that backs up this claim? HOW does he know this? Is his/her data recent, or dated?

If not, I would dismiss it, in same way that I would dismiss other football cheers, like this old one (very dated!!) for the Masschusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in the U.S.:

“Integral! Radical! Mu, DVSlipstick! Slide rule! MIT!”

Or this one, for any univeristy that calls itself “Tech” (like, Georgia Tech):

“Square root, tangent, hyperbolic sine, Three point one four one five nine,e to the x, dy, dx, Sliderule, slipstick, Tech, Tech, Tech!”

    Best regards,
    QualityColorado

I was not too impressed with Villanova…especially when one of the instructors couldn’t tell how to pronounce DMAIC.Scott

    Kanbana Boy, Good morning!

Yes, when the instructor cannot pronouce something as basis as DMAIC, that is indeed NOT a good sign!

Out of curiosity, how did he (or she) try to pronounce it (so that I can add to my collection of misprounced words in process improvement)?

Lest anyone else be confused, keep in mind that Villanova University does not offer this training.  bisk education (tampa fla) is the source of the training.  bisk pays Villanova to use the university name.

    Been there …..,   Good afternoon!
Thanks for your note.  I did not realize that Villanova was simply a sub-contractor for training that was developed elsewhere.

It was a while ago but I remember something like DIME-ICK….I never felt he Villanova ‘instructors’ were really who they were. I had a feeling they stuck homeless guys in suits and had them read from a powerpoint pres.I never got the warm feeling they were experts in their field.Scott

    Scott,

Thanks for your posting.  I know the feeling.

Whenever someone talks to me about some process improvement class taht their company or university is offering, I always ask them how they apply them materials themselves — NOT how they consult to others, but how they apply it to their own operations.

Sadly, very few training companies or universities that TEACH Six Sigma (or other process improvement tools and methods) actually ever even try to APPLY it to improve their own operations.

    Best regards,
    QualityColorado

QC – couldn’t agree with you more.
As I’ve posted before, I was with one of the top 20 or so training firms for a number of years and fought this battle frequently. I began a YB course for our HO employees and the CEO said “we don’t have time for that”. Hhmmmm…wonder how we convinced our clients they had time for it?

To  be  honest  their main  instructor is  a  real  expert who  can  explain difficult statistical  topics like ANOVA,DEO,etc. in  a  simple impressive way.
    best  regards
