I find the discussion forum useful and interesting. There is a wealth of knowledge that can be tapped into through the forum. However, I believe there is a better way to display the information that would be more useful to me and hopefully others. When you click on a topic, the first screen that appears is a condensed thread that clearly shows which messages were responses to which other messages. This format helps to understand the context of the messages. The problem with this format is that for my machine it takes 13 to 25 seconds (with a mean of 20 seconds) to open each message. I’d like to eliminate this muda. The other format for displaying messages it to show “entire thread”. On my machine, this download takes about the same amount of time as to open each individual message (approximately 20 seconds). The problem with this format is that I cannot easily determine which message responds to which other message so some of the context is lost as well as some of the meaning. Isn’t there some way to download the entire thread (this minimizes the muda of waiting for each message to download) while still displaying it in the condensed format that makes it easy to see the message context?
Thanks

open the messages. Have you looked at all the potential causes of the
20 seconds average time? Might be worth doing that
before trying to change the existing format. Try
equipment, connection speed, security settings etc.Davy T0April 2, 2009 at 1:39 pm #183086DavyT: Exactly.
The Fora are running very quickly on my end. Also, having discussed this with Mike C. in Miami, the format is a home-grown creation, coded by Mike himself back at the beginning, some 8-9 yrs back. We discussed BBS and other formats and the bottom line is value for money. Several of us raised the idea of creating a subscription service that opens further content, a marketplace, etc…to help defray the costs of upgrading formats, while keeping the fora free. I wonder if the new Owners would be receptive to this?0April 2, 2009 at 1:40 pm #183087I’m not a computer expert but I think I have done what I can to address this issue for my machine. I have limited options to change security settings, equipment, etc. If I were working this issue for ISIXSIGMA and only one customer was having this problem, then changing the format to address the problem would not be a high priority.
The question should be how many customers would benefit from a change, how hard is the change to make and are there potential drawbacks of making the change. Only someone familiar with the ISIXSIGMA website can answer the latter questions but we can all help answer the first. Please provide input: How long does it take your machine to open a discussion forum message? Open a few and provide a range.
Thanks
IHD BB0April 2, 2009 at 2:05 pm #183089Less than a second…almost instantaneous. Might be your ISP, or line.
Also, I don’t consider myself a Customer, since I have zero financial stake in the product, or service offering. We may be “Customer’s” in a grand sense, since we partake in the fora under the good graces of ISix. I’d be willing to pay an appropriate yearly amount, say 30 bucks, to help underwrite the upgrades, so it can remain free for the rest of the folks…in return, of course, for more/different access’ reserved for paying members. Then VoC would become more tangible and measureable.

The format takes a little getting used to, but it does make it easier to follow the reply threads. The only improvement to suggest here is maybe the previous msg be shown below for reference – similar to when you are posting a reply.0April 2, 2009 at 5:08 pm #183109Customer? I’m no stinking customer.I consider myself a helpful interloper.
0April 2, 2009 at 5:49 pm #183111Hbgb b^2, how good was our feedback? It was late and we were drunk when we met with the fake Mike. I think I wanted him to add emoticons and a B***S *** button.

Doesn’t that make us a customer or are we just stock?0April 3, 2009 at 12:23 pm #183118
