Just recieved what I think to be a very good e-letter from James Womack, titled “Respect for People.”  It provides a good contrast of managemnt styles and approaches, and – as you might have guessed – Toyota takes a drastically different approach in how management shows respect for their people, with some drastically different results, when compared to their western counterparts.  You can find the e-letter at http://www.lean.org.
There is also a pretty good discussion going on right now among the members of the Deming Electronic Network (DEN), regarding whether Deming was more of a scientist or a practitioner.  Some very good insights into Deming, his thinking and his approach from some that new him, worked with him, and learned from him.

Yeah, I have read that article. Pretty interesting. I think it really shows the differences between the two companies philosophies. But making it work is another story. Or should I say that getting some middle and upper managers to get on board is the hard part.
Merry Christmas and have a Happy New Year to all readers and posters.
