    This is way to easy, but it’s a new day, so I’ll try to take the high road.
    A Consultant’s role is to come in as a disinterested third party with industry, or cross-industry credentials and credibility.   They can provide objective, disintereste views on your Processes, People and culture.   At the end of the day, a good Consultant can not only tell you where to place the chalk X on your widget-maker, but also teach your widget-maker Operators how to fish.  
    If the hiring Org doesn’t follow the Consultant’s lead, they are out $ and opportunity, in which case, the Consultant delivers an executive summary in the form of a picture of a rabbit with a pancake on his head and tells everyone in his/her network about the easy-pickens at company “X”.
