Can any one tell me whats the difference between six sigma and lean six sigma? I’m talking in terms of material learned and marketability. I already have a lot of training and experience in lean manufacturing. But I’m interested in six sigma.

The difference is with LSS you possess the additional knowledge of 5S, Poke-Yoke, Value Stream Analysis, Kaizen events, use of Kanbans, etc. – the full Lean spectrum. As to marketability; that depends on the hiring entity and their needs.

Lean allows you to fix problems for which the knowledge of the solution exists somewhere in the organization.
Six Sigma gets the numbers to tell you what is going on, rather than people so it is not as dependant on “tribal knowledge”
For sure there is a lot of discussion on this topic. Perhaps have a look back at some earlier posts on the same subject.

Would I get less SS training by trying to obtain LSS or the same amount of training? In other words is there a primary focus on Lean? Thank you for your reply.

It will vary by provider. You will have to do some serious due diligence. Check the course contents for a number of providers… the good ones will have no problem displaying such info on their site. If it’s not there… perhaps there’s a reason.
Go to http://www.asq.orgΒ to see an appropriate Body of Knowledge description for SS and to http://www.lean.org for similar info on Lean. Then check providers.
It’s all worth the effort up front.
