    Hi all,
Could someone answer the question, when the solutions are implemented in DMAIC cycle? I looked at the literature and it is not clear to me. Solutions are piloted in Improve and in Control, measurements are established to ensure sustainability of results? Does it happen in Improve? Between Improve & Control? In Control? Or outside of scope of DMAIC?
Do not want to sound too formalistic… But the answer to this question can significantly impact the proejct outcome….
    Many thanks
    Kikka

Based upon the results of the analysis performed in the Analyze Phase you should be able to come up with a desired future state. At that point you need to test and validate that theory. Based on successful tweaking and validation, the changes should be implemented and monitored via I-MR, Control Cart, etc. This is done in the Improve Phase. Then you must develop a robust self sustaining Control Plan.

    Kikka, Good afternoon!

I am certain you will find many different opinions about this on the Discussion Board here.  In my experience, implementation is in the latter part of the “Improve” phase.

Some organizations have taken “DMAIC” and added an extra “I” to create “DMAIIC” — the later “I” stands for Implement.

While I still like the DMAIC acronym (single “I”), it is still true that Implement is part of the “Improve” phase.

    Best regards,

Sustainability belong to  the  last  phase :Control

Implementation of ideas are out in the Improve phase &  Sustainability of the improvement belongs to the  last  phase Control

    Greetings:
We support DMAIC teams with simulation tools that support the Analyze phase in an effort to quantify and prioritize hypotheses. As clients identify, evaluate and prioritize the benefits they then move into the “Trial”(Do-it-try-it-fix-it) or Improvement stage. When trial is complete and benefits have been demonstrated the DMAIC teams tend to migrate into the Control Phase…codify the processes, metrics and in our case, leverage our solutions to sustain the benefits.
    Hope I answered your question.

    My humble take….
How can you improve without having IMPLEMTENTED something,
    and
What are you going to control, unless you’ve implemted some changes….

Absolutely. I agree with you Fred.
You are basically implementing a solution (resulting from analyze phase) to improve the system and then controling /sustaining the improvement (changes) in the Control phase.

    Hi
The solution will be implemented in between analysis and improve.
Once u ve analzed the processes then u’ll implement the solutions. Only after that you will be able to improve the solutions and the outcomes.
    Regards
