I want to plot incoming call volume (half hour intervals) on a control chart, what is the right control chart to use. Thank you.
0March 6, 2007 at 3:24 pm #152790Hi Vinayak – good question. Have you done any reseach yet to get closer to a reasonable answer? Have you narrowed down your choices?

The question is, what are you trying to control?0March 6, 2007 at 5:12 pm #152802

0March 6, 2007 at 5:29 pm #152804Not sure what a control chart will do for you in terms of olume only, but the individuals chart is the one to go with (I&MR).
0March 6, 2007 at 5:49 pm #152806Better watch out, someone like Darth is going to yell at you for asking others to do your homework.

Ken FeldmanParticipant@DarthInclude @Darth in your post and this person will

0March 7, 2007 at 12:44 am #152822Charting for charting’s sake is a waste of time. What is the problem you are trying to solve ?

joe0March 7, 2007 at 10:57 am #152835I-MR chart would be the right one.

Mike0March 7, 2007 at 1:26 pm #152841Have you characterized the variability yet? I would suggest a multi-vari analysis first. You need some basis for rational subgrouping.
The hierarchy could go:
Call center (1,2,…n)
Week (1,2,…n)
Shift (1,2,3)
Hour (1,2,….8)
I would have to understand you needs a little better to be sure about this, but it is not always the best idea to jump into control charting without proper characterization.
Good Luck

You need to help us out a little and define your problem first. If you are looking for variation that’s one thing. I’m not sure a control chart is the right tool based upon the little information provided.0March 7, 2007 at 3:26 pm #152849
Ken FeldmanParticipant@DarthInclude @Darth in your post and this person will

0March 7, 2007 at 6:16 pm #152867If you are measuring the number of incoming calls, that would be discrete data which means you would not use an i chart. And since you are measuring occurances and cannot say that each occurance has an equal opportunity, I would go with a u chart.
