    It’s got to be a sales thing….consultants at Motorola wanted to distinguish between a good team leader and the best type of team leader.  Marshal arts uses the term “black belt” for their very best students.

    Adopting six-sigma has been described as “similar to retraining your entire workforce,including  marketers and janitors,to think and act like engineers”.Unique  to sixsigma  is the practice of training and developing foot soldiers known as Black Belts throughout the company to work full-time on projects to drive out defects.The term Black Belt,borrowed from  the material arts,in this case is meant to underline the mental discipline and intensive  training involved.
