    Hi Don
Probably you are trying to calculate the wrong thing. USL & LSL are specification limits which are defined by the customer. There is no way you can calculate them from data.
What you can calculate in Control limits, which depending on the type of data – different formulas are available. But you can still say that they are at a difference…[Read more]

  • Hi Prasoon
What is being measured over here is the number of tickets raised and that is a Count of the tickets. Count by any means is Discrete. To expalin further – Can there be any day when 10.5 tickets were raised, it will be either 10 or 11, hence it is a Discrete data.

  • As your data is ‘Number of tcikets’, it is a Discrete data and definitely it will turn out to be Non Normal. Treat it like discrete data and use tools available for the same. You dont need to check Normality in this case.

  • Hi Thomas
In one of my previous companies we were following 5S very sincerely. We used to use Tape as well as Paints. Paint used to be pretty expensive and used to get worn off with the movement of trolleys – there was no fix to that so what we started doing is we started educating people regarding not taking the trolleys over the lines and…[Read more]

  • I searched for it and found it in the website. Just search for tollgate in the search bar and you can select the first link. You will find details for all the phases.

  • Hi, I am having the list but it will be too long to put it over here, if you can give me your mail ID, I can mail the same to you.

  • What was the objective of measure phase?
What was the type of data you were supposed to measure?
What is the tool used for measurement?
Was the measurement system Analyzed and if yes which statistical tool was used?
    How was MSA performed?
    What is Operational Definition?
What factors were considered before preparing data collection plan?
    How…[Read more]

  • Hi,
Though this list is not exhaustive, but still you can refer to these points and define the complexity.
Time taken to close the project
Business Impact of the project (in terms of savings)
Number of Business Units that the project will run across or Number of BU’s that will be involved in the project
Whether the teams will be working full…[Read more]

  • I can provide you with policies of 3 different organizations but naming them would be a challenge:

    Hi Vinay,
If a clause is not applicable to your industry and a proper justification provided for the same – in that case it will not be an NC.
Regarding the documents, if they have to signed by 2 managers it has to be done when document is created and reviewed, there is no point waiting for the Audit to do that. Infact if it is supposed to be…[Read more]

  • Hi, If the number of projects being run in an organization are low, in that case using an excel based tracker and a folder for storing documents may be helpful but when the number of projects increase it needs a proper system – We had asked out local IT team to build a database in Lotus notes only where the details of the projects can be saved and…[Read more]

  • Anand replied to the topic Kaizen in the forum General 13 years, 7 months ago

    Hi Neha
I can understand your concern and am just wondering about how it should be done as your product changes everytime the process cycle is repeated.  But, as Kaizen means continuous improvement, what you should do is to start a campaign, initial thing you can probably start with is 5S and slowly spread to other tools as people become more…[Read more]

  • Anand replied to the topic Kaizen in the forum General 13 years, 7 months ago

Hi, what you can probably do is to identify the defect that is occuring the maximum number of times and take up a Kaizen event to fix that.

  • I had couple of discussions about deployment of Six Sigma at Moolchand Hospital in Delhi, unfortunately the thing didnt work out. In my opinion Indian hospitals are looking forward to implement Six Sigma but as of now I dont think any of them has successfully implemented it.
Still, it was good to see a dedicated team for Quality working hard to…[Read more]

  • You can read ‘The Goal’ it is a similar scenario and the  book is as well interesting to read. It speaks about Theory of Constraints.

  • Anand replied to the topic FMEA scales in the forum General 13 years, 8 months ago

For calculating RPN it is important to have all 3 ratings and infact you would find it relatively easy to improve your occurence & detection ratings than severity. What is also important is that you should use the same scale for ratings every time you revisit FMEA.

  • While doing Nested Gage R&R you will have to pick up samples which are nearly similar to each other for one set of readings. Like samples from the same length of the bar on whose sections you are going to do a destructive hardness test.
