• Sounds like you need to do something that gives you a p-value. How about a regression, checking to see if the slope is significant? A Fitted-Line plot can do the same thing. (If your change isn’t linear, then it gets a little more complicated, but you could still use multiple regression). 10 years, 6 months ago

  • This was the third link down when I googled B4 Control Chart:

You’ll find your answer there very nicely.

  • Depending on if you believe the 1.5 sigma shift hypothesis (which at GB level you should), the 3.4 ppm DPMO corresponds to a 6 sigma process. You can use the definition of the Z transformation (that is, how to get your given mean / st dev. data to a Z-value) (Z=(Xi-mu)/sigma), and compare it with the Cpk formula, to convince yourself that 3*Cpk…[Read more]

  • I can see every piece of profile information for anyone if you click on their “profile” link. Just as Darth says — It was a shocker to find out that all fields are visible for all users. 10 years, 6 months ago

  • It appears to me that all profile data is visible, despite the icons saying that certain fields are not shown to the public. Do I just have super-user access, or is there a bug in the system? 10 years, 6 months ago

  • Wasn’t the point to give enough information to get the student to the next step? If I was mentoring, I might ask which distribution commonly uses degrees of freedom to give a follow-on hint. (That, and google 2-tailed test for the principles…)

Should there be further questions, I might mention that this is not a rounding issue… 10 years,…[Read more]

  • I guess if you never need to print anything out of QC3, you may be good to go. Their new value stream package is far inferior to igrafx, though; you might try checking that out. (I don’t work for either company). 10 years, 7 months ago

  • I am — the difficulty is when I have to present items to non-QC3 users. I can’t print anything out, since the .html code does not understand page breaks and does not scale well. Exporting anything to powerpoint (a program directors, etc. can use vs. QC3) is nigh-useless given the lack of page formatting. We are looking at igrafx for process…[Read more]

  • Also, it’s not a fantastic product. Minitab tried to come up with a all-inclusive solution for the non-statistical areas of LSS. Unfortunately, it doesn’t work particularly well in terms of using the data in other programs (powerpoint, word, etc.). It’s based on html code, which gives it a severe limitation. We tried it, and will likely drop…[Read more]

  • This sounds like you already have the solution determined, so not so much a DMAIC project as a “just do it” project.ย  You aren’t trying to improve a process, just fix a bug.ย  10 years, 8 months ago

  • Isn’t there a point where you can overkill on certifications? Just know what the heck you are doing, understand how to run a project, and be able to demonstrate it through past accomplishments. When I hire people, I care less about the letters behind their name vs what they have actually done. 10 years, 8 months ago

Perhaps a local volunteer agency — a food bank? Someplace that uses frequently repeating processes (ease of data collection), that could use a free efficiency increase.

  • Leader replied to the topic COPQ and Sigma Level in the forum General 10 years, 9 months ago

That’s a good point — I think that a COPQ statistic may be more meaningful to a leadership team that has no gut feel of what a sigma level is or what a Cpk means. Something to think about when “translating” six sigma for the masses.

Also there are more “internal” KPI’s — cycle time for testing, OEE for analytical equipment, internal lab investigations, etc.
