Jeff replied to the topic Six Sigma certification without Black Belt Mentor? Is it possible? in the forum New to Lean Six Sigma 12 years ago
I recommend not going through Villanova online. I have met and had to work with several people who went through the online programs, Villanova just being one. I have never found any of those individuals to be knowledgeable enough to warrant certification as a Black Belt. My company has a policy whereby Black Belts not certified through our…[Read more]

My company uses both with the primary difference being Shainin uses the contrast between the best and worst samples for a particular defect to identify the root cause. It is faster than Six Sigma but contrasting good and bad samples are required. We continue to use both methodologies in the company with Shainin focused more heavily in o…[Read more]

Jeff replied to the topic Chi-Square in Excel in the forum General 12 years, 7 months ago
Thanks Remi,I was indeed using CHINV for my calculation, but as p was so low, Excel was reading it as negative and giving #NUM. I found the threshold at which that occurs and my workaround was to use another Chi-square spreadsheet from a colleague, who thankfully had noticed the same issue. Once I plugged everything it, I got expected results.…[Read more]

Didn’t render well. Never mind. Chi Square is less than crit, so fail to reject null. That’s my story and I’m sticking to it.

Our leadership was burned a few years ago my a quality improvement consultant and these guys have long memories. As long as I can show verifiable cost reductions or money made, I’m good. You are right, there are loads of opportunities in telecomm, but our issue is we have long-tenured managers who just don’t care to change. Baby steps, baby steps.…[Read more]

No offense taken at all. I’ll take all the encouragement I can get. You’ve nailed it by saying it has to be their idea. That is definitely the case with us; I just have to help them along a bit to come up with the ideas on their own, and make sure they are convinced the ideas were theirs in the first place. We do what you call the mini-kaizens…[Read more]

HornJM,As with many of us, I work within the constraints I have been set with. I’m sure you didn’t mean to suggest anything derogatory when you asked “how can you not see the opportunities here?” I see a great many opportunities; it is my management who do not. We get paid to take calls and as such the root cause for the call is irrelevant just so…[Read more]

We track the following depending on client. We run call centers in the US and Canada.Calls per Shift – the number of calls per work shift; broken out by unit, rep, and then by weekday or weekendAverage Handle Time (AHT)- the total time from call pickup to hangupAverage Hold Time (AHoT) – the total time caller is on hold, both before and during the…[Read more]

Jeff replied to the topic Integrating Six Sigma with Scrum in the forum Software/IT 13 years, 2 months ago
I totally agree with you. A lot of upper management sees the old ways while lower management (engineers) see the newer way. We need to adopt a means to that Agile principles are the cornerstone of the software development and for example DMAIC processes are the cornerstone of software quality. For example DFSS can be used to significantly quantify…[Read more]

Successful companies will ultimately develop an Agile process that works for them. Working in a company that has traditioned itself on Six Sigma and Digital Six Sigma, one really finds Scrum works with the engineering management of the software developers. What Agile does help accomplish and Scrum the best of all is to put focus on high priority…[Read more]

In analyzing two independent small samples you notice that the standard deviation for both samples are the same. How does this affect the S2p (the pooled variance)? Explain your answer.

Nope. Jeff in Houston. That guy never did tell me what all this six sigma is about, but he’s gonna get me certified. I hope they offer the cert I want.

Sig,I would inquire whether your firm offers the Six Sigma Martial Master 10th Dan (Judan) Red (better than the black belt of course) Belt certification and the price thereof should you indeed offer it. I have no prior experience and I am not certain what you mean by the term “project.” I do, however, have a large budget, and if you can guarantee…[Read more]

Does anyone understand how Minitab constructs D-optimal matrices? My procedure is resulting in 2-level factors when 3 levels are desired. -
Jeff replied to the topic Correlation of Age and Attrition Reason in the forum General 13 years, 12 months ago
Thanks Mike. I’ve never done a Weibull analysis before. I’m hoping you can help me set it up. I have a table listing age groups in the rows and reasons for attrition in the columns. I’d also like to compare the people who left with the people who stayed. So how do I set this up? I have a spreadsheet with all the data, but I don’t know how to set…[Read more]
