A C&E can work nicely with projects down the left and business voice/goals/needs along the top.

Assuming the same 37 samples are used in each comparison in the same why wouldn’t you use regression (fitted line plot) and measure each one against the central standard. Verify the residules and choose the machine with the best R-squared. This should work with one element but may not if the machine needs to be the best for measuring multiple…[Read more]

Suggest you do an FMEA first, to understand what can be the failure modes and then work on an action plan on it

Absolutely. The great things about Sales and Marketing is that it is the crux of all activity to poise the business for success. As such, there’s tons of Six Sigma opportunity. One such project I have reviewed was tasked with optimizing the marketing mix for product launches and media/advertising purchases in diverse markets. We employed DOE’s,…[Read more]

I printed out the Dilbert Comic and have it sitting over my desk. I think it’s an important reminder to all those “belts” that in the end, Six Sigma is just a set of tools. Companies become enamored with stuff like Six Sigma and loose sight of the fact that it’s what they make or do, not Six Sigma, that makes them money.
It’s also a great r…[Read more] -

I was certified at a previous company and that certification transferred to the company I am at currently. Also, I have a new job function and cannot easily identify how I can utilize the Six Sigma tools to improve what I am doing. I do not have a sponsor. I was going to tackle a bigger problem related to inventory but my manager wanted me to find…[Read more]

BTDT,
My project is not focusing on changing the price of the product, it is focusing on making it easier for our customers to figure out what the price is. It seems that we have wide variety of discounts anywhere from 40%-80% of listed price and some of it is based on volume, some of it is based on competition and some of it is just based on…[Read more] -

Thank you TwoCents.
The cake thing is really funny to explain. I have samples for cake 1 (think of it as an experiment) and samples for cake 2. For my finished product I have to combine two cake 1 measures and one cake 2 measures to get a finished product. But before I do that I have to ‘predict’ the final cake properties like standard d…[Read more] -

Iain,
I have a compound that is made out of 2 parts of one ‘cake 1 ‘ and 1 part of ‘cake 2’. When the final compound ‘cake’ is done, I now have a finished product. I have a median and standard deviation information for cake 1 and cake 2. How do I calculated the standard deviation for the final cake? I know that median of my final cake is g…[Read more] -

Higher the precision higher the sampel size you need.
Most of companies / organizations that I have seen uses 5 % precision.
