The time frame is more or less what I assume a
person needs to collect data from his/her work-site
spread over a number of projects, & read up on the
Six Sigma body of knowledge from numerous sources.
It assumes the person has a reasonable grasp of the
parameters involved in the manufacturing or service

Not really. The COPQ (Cost of Poor Quality) which
includes time & material wasted, as well as the
product/service that has to be reworked, bites into
about 30% of the turnover. Doing things right, the
first time, & on time; by analyzing process data &
taking focussed action is the most cost effective &

Not getting support to optimize operations,
illogical as it is; is quite the norm.
Astonishingly, it is rampant in the fabrication

Unless you already have a data set from your
previous work that you can analyse, you need a job.
Easier said than done.

examples for COPQ (Cost of Poor Quality); right from
logistics to production.

the basic function should not be eliminated as that is
your insurance against possible repairs & re-work down
your own production…

boss, with the most lethal combination being an
uneducated company shareholder.
Coming back to your problem statement though; I’d
I am a black belt with a Lean background, & expertise
in the manufacturing sector.
The only thing that does not work is when efforts are
not focussed (goals not clearly defined).
If you can manage to avoid this pitfall, between a
combination of six sigma & lean, there is no project
that I have come across that could not be…[Read more]
