Hi Patrick !
While I don’t denie that SS is a great tool, for some companies, and some people, the mistake is that we want or somebody wants to say that it can be and has to be applied for every aspect of the business.
See some opinion here as well.

Well I don’t think that there is a best SPC softwear, or there is somebody, to know all and be able to give you an objective replay.
In my opinion on one side there are your needs, and the other side the softwear capabilities and price.
So you have to select the one which best fits your needs.

You may want to take a look at these sites. We had good discussions on the topic, you mentioned.
http://www.immnet.com
http://www.plastics.com
You can apply SPC in IM, for part dimensional characteristics, weight for reference only, and processing parameters, as, cushion, fill time, cycle time, recovery and so on.
Good luck

Linda
What process are you intrested in ? OEE is only a number, given by a formula. If youhave the data, and it is corect, then should be not a problem calculating it. Interpretation may be a problem. It may hapen looking only at OEE, that you have made improvements, but in the reality you performance is worse. let us know more about your p…[Read more] -

hello Fuzz !
Good answer given by y=f(x). i will add my ones.
Why you want to implement SPC ? Is your customer requirement, or as oppotunity for improvement ?
It’s not soo easy in a painting department. Be aware not to overcontroll your process, and have actions when it is not needed. Usually in painting, the acceptance criteria is not the…[Read more] -

quite intresting posts. I would classify the company as below:
1)they know about SS
2) they have trained some people
3) they have done some projects
4) most of the people on shoop floor as well knows what is SS and practice SS, or part of methodology
5)real results and measurables can be seen, not only data from project presentation.
I kno…[Read more] -

quality1 replied to the topic Gauge RR and visual inspection in the forum General 16 years, 8 months ago
I would say, that Atrtribute gageR&R, is 50 % of work. A lot depends on your process. do you have 100% visual inspection ? How many operators (visual inspectors are involved ? How many shifts you have ? Are you able to include all you defectives, uncertaineties in you study, and so on. On the other hand, the study will show you what are the…[Read more]

Shankar !
In what context did you read that expression ? I suppose that it refers to manual data colection, and charting. You can always improve your method.
On the other way some online statistical programs has built in an option of recalculating the upper and lower control limits, based on historical data.
hope this helps

Hanna !
I’m not professional, but my thoughts:Why you want additional sampling ? Is it needed ? Do you have quality problems, or just a new chart ?
What kind of incoming data you have ? What is the incomind data colection frequency?
Why not to trust ? If you can’t trust, why you don’t improve that ?
How stable (or how much variation) is y…[Read more] -

quality1 replied to the topic VSM Software in the forum General 16 years, 9 months ago
In my opinion the best method to do it, is by hand. Visualization, and team involment. If later on you want an electronic copy, you can use, world, excel ( you can download icons from lean.org), visio, igrafx, http://www.evsm.com, http://www.traleon.com (their tool is called ValueStreamDesigner,)
Hope this helps.

If some succeds with SS, and some fail, the problem is not the tool, is the method you use it.
