Why is median preferred over mean as a measure of central tendancy in most statistical analysis?
    Thanks

It is not preferred in most statistical analysis as you stated.  It is preferred when the data is skewed.  The mean is a mathematical center and if there are outliers then the value of the mean is distorted by them and the mean no longer is a great representation of the center.  The median is the physical center of the data and thus is not greatly affected by outliers.  It is not quite as powerful but might be the best option although there are others besides using the median in lieu of the mean.  But since you didn’t know about the mean and median, it might be a bit soon to tell  you about the secret tools to use instead of the median.

To prove that you are worthy of the secret info, you have to post a value added response to someone on the Forum. Then you will be shown the secret handshake and receive the secret words of wisdom. Gee, let’s at least make this some fun, eh?

    Darth,
I understand well. Need to study the distribution before running the tests. Also need to select the right checkboxes in the options menu.
    Thanks for your quick response.
    Best Regards

    Hi Pete,
Just the simple box blot, not box cox transformation.

    Thanks
