Could someone please direct me to a cite that offers an example of gap or short fall anaysis for ISO 9001 application. Possible templates would be a help. I am in the last stages of my analysis and want a report format that is easy to follow. The report form that I have developed seems to work well, but, I would like to view others to validate my reporting format or to point me in the proper direction if I missed the boat completely.

    Thank you for your help,
    Dave Morrow

    Hi David,

The best way to carry out a comprehensive audit is actually to tailor the checklist to your needs. One size does not fit all. Over time you’ll become an expert and the time for preparation goes down as your experience goes up.

Besides the “shalls” and “musts” you should tailor the checklist to a planned strategy:
    – Which trade do you want to follow?
    – What specific products or processes do you want to audit?
    – Do you want to work your way upstream or work downstream?

There’s a decent book out from years ago by L. Marvin Johnson and Associates Inc. entitled “Quality Assurance Evaluator’s Workbook.” Maybe you can still find a copy.

If you still need some inspiration on checklist questions, you can take a peak at other people’s checklists. Here are a few suggestions:

    Hi David,

Sorry about the first suggested link, I think it was bad.

    Here’s the good one:
